Federal Clean Energy Tax Credit Incentives Ending Soon

IRVINE, Calif. (July 22, 2025) – Orange County Power Authority (OCPA), a not-for-profit community clean energy provider, is encouraging residential customers to take advantage of valuable federal clean energy tax credit incentives scheduled to phase out in the coming months, due to recent federal budget legislation. Established under the Inflation Reduction Act, these opportunities offer beneficial savings and support OCPA customers investing in clean energy transition and energy reduction.

The federal incentives that are set to expire offer significant cost savings:

  • Up to $7,500 for new electric vehicles (EVs) and up to $4,000 for used electric vehicles (EV) – expires September 30, 2025
  • 30% tax credits for heat pump water heaters and HVAC systems (up to $2,000) – expires December 31, 2025
  • 30% tax credits for home battery systems and solar – expires December 31, 2025
  • 30% tax credit for installing an EV charger at home (up to $1,000) – expires June 30, 2026

“If you’ve been thinking about purchasing a new electric vehicle, battery storage or electric vehicle charging system for your home, now is the time to take advantage of federal tax credits before they expire,” said Susan Sonne, OCPA Board Chair. “OCPA also offers a variety of programs and rebates that, when combined with federal incentives, help customers save additional money and manage their energy use more efficiently.”

Current opportunities for OCPA customers include a Residential Battery Rebate Program and the electric vehicle charger Charge@home program, each of which offer a $1,000 rebate. Visit ocpower.org/energy-programs/incentive-finder to learn more about these opportunities and more, including the OCPA Marketplace with discounted home items and appliances.
