Louis Ting Hired as Director of Power Resources For Orange County Power Authority

With more than three decades of experience, Ting will oversee and advise on complex short- and long-term energy projects and procurement activities for Orange County’s renewable energy provider

IRVINE, Calif. (August 1, 2024) – The Orange County Power Authority (OCPA) has announced the hiring of Louis Ting as its Director of Power Resources. In this role, Ting will serve as a high-level technical advisor on energy projects and contracts. He will manage complex short- and long-term energy resource planning and procurement activities for OCPA, leading to a cleaner, more sustainable and reliable electricity grid for OCPA communities and customers.

“Expanding our team with deep expertise in clean energy is a top priority,” said Joe Mosca, CEO. “We’re thrilled to welcome Louis aboard, especially as we continue to expand and focus more heavily on long-term renewable energy resources, providing affordable, stable rates far into the future for our customers.”

The Director of Power Resources plays a crucial role in guiding OCPA’s procurement success and the continued diversification of its energy portfolio. Ting brings over three decades of experience managing power and water projects for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), the nation’s largest municipal utility, where he spearheaded projects and studies in power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.

During his tenure with LADWP, Ting was responsible for the vital transition to a clean energy future. He focused on modernizing the grid to enable clean electrification programs, implementing strategies to strengthen Los Angeles’ distribution and transmission grids, and executing major power system programs. Ting also led a seasoned team in collaboration with diverse stakeholders to transition a coal-to-natural gas project with green hydrogen-powered combined-cycle units.

Ting is a University of California, Los Angeles graduate with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering.
