Community Grant Applications Now Open to Local Non-Profits Advancing Green Energy Initiatives

Orange County Power Authority and Calpine Community Energy team up to award grants of up to $27,500 to support clean energy advancement

IRVINE, Calif. (October 6, 2025) – Orange County Power Authority (OCPA) – a community clean energy provider – is now accepting applications for its annual Calpine Community Benefits Grant. In partnership with Calpine Community Energy, this funding opportunity supports local nonprofits with plans to advance clean energy usage and generation, green job training, environmental education and stewardship, and energy equity efforts in OCPA member communities.

The deadline to apply is November 14, 2025, with recipients being notified in early 2026.

“As a not-for-profit, Orange County Power Authority is honored to provide support for local nonprofit organizations advancing climate resiliency,” said OCPA Board Chair Susan Sonne. “We are proud to partner with Calpine Community Energy on this funding initiative that uplifts organizations leading the way in renewable energy education and engagement.”

The Community Benefits Grant is open to organizations and projects focused on pioneering sustainability and resiliency through 1) Research, 2) Education, 3) Environmental and Social Justice Communities, and 4) Workforce Development. The program is managed through a partnership between Calpine Community Energy and OCPA. Calpine provides the funding, while OCPA sets the grant guidelines and project requirements. Together, the two organizations collaborate to review and evaluate all grant applications.

“We are proud to invest in initiatives that bring clean energy solutions directly to the communities we serve,” said Calpine Community Energy Vice President of CCA Commercial Operations Josh Brock. “Through this partnership with OCPA, we’re not only funding innovative projects, but we’re empowering local organizations to lead meaningful change across Orange County.”
