Green P100NEER: Coyote Hills Ophthalmology

Say hello to the newest Green P100NEER choosing 100% renewable energy for their business: Coyote Hills Ophthalmology in Fullerton!

Becoming a Green P100NEER is one way local businesses are making sustainability a part of their business model and brand story. It’s a simple switch to clean energy that aligns with their values and makes a difference in their community.

Dr. Diana Lee believes that environmental and human health go hand in hand. By choosing clean energy with Orange County Power Authority (OCPA), she’s reducing the very conditions she treats in her patients, while exemplifying what it means to be a leader in sustainability. We had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Lee to learn more:

What inspired your practice to choose 100% renewable energy with OCPA?

As a health care provider, Coyote Hills Ophthalmology is deeply committed to improving the lives of our community members. We do this not only by providing vision care, but also by contributing to a healthier environment. Partnering with OCPA and choosing 100% renewable energy felt like a natural extension of our mission. We saw it as an opportunity to make a tangible impact on climate change while supporting a local, community-driven solution.

How does using clean energy align with your values as a health care provider?

At the heart of health care is the principle of “do no harm.” Clean, renewable energy reduces pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, which directly impact respiratory and cardiovascular health. By choosing clean energy, we’re helping to prevent the very conditions we often see in our patients. It’s about treating today’s concerns while protecting future generations.

Do you see a connection between environmental sustainability and overall health?

Absolutely. Environmental health and human health are deeply intertwined. Poor air quality, extreme heat, and water pollution all pose serious risks to well-being. As a physician, I believe it’s our responsibility to look upstream and address the root causes of health disparities—including environmental degradation. Sustainability isn’t just good for the planet—it’s essential for our collective health.

Beyond renewable energy, what other sustainability efforts has your practice adopted?

We’ve taken several steps to reduce our environmental footprint. These include switching to digital patient records to minimize paper waste, using energy-efficient lighting and appliances, and responsibly recycling medical packaging. We’re also exploring green procurement practices when it comes to office and medical supplies.

What has been the response from your patients and staff about your commitment to clean energy?

The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Many of our patients are conscious of their environmental impact and appreciate knowing their health care provider shares those same values. Our staff takes pride in working for a practice that leads by example, and our transition to 100% renewable energy has created a stronger sense of purpose and community within our office.

How would you encourage other health care providers and local businesses to consider making the switch to renewable energy?

I would encourage other health care providers and local businesses to choose 100% renewable energy with OCPA. Making the switch was not only an easy and impactful decision, but the process was seamless. The transition didn’t have any disruption to our operations and had minimal financial cost, which was a very positive feature. I would encourage other organizations to consider the powerful message switching to renewable energy sends and consider the enhancement it can have on your business’s values and long-term commitment to health and sustainability.

What would you say to businesses in the community to encourage them to become 100% Renewable Choice customers and participate in OCPA’s Green P100NEER program?

Participating in OCPA’s Green P100NEER program is a remarkable opportunity to be a leader in the space. By becoming a 100% Renewable Choice customer and joining the Green P100NEER program, you’re not only investing in cleaner air and a healthier planet—you’re also joining a network of forward-thinking businesses who care about the legacy they leave behind. It’s good for business, good for the community, and great for the future.

Have a vision for a greener future? Join the Green P100NEER network and lead the way in clean energy.
